Golf champion Tiger Woods faced a DUI charge following an accident that occurred in Jupiter, Florida, on Friday afternoon, according to local law enforcement officials. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. and involved Woods’ Land Rover and a pickup truck towing a small trailer.
### Incident Description
According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the pickup truck was entering a driveway when Woods’ vehicle attempted to overtake it at high speeds. The Land Rover swerved abruptly to avoid colliding with the truck but made contact with the trailer, resulting in the SUV flipping onto its side and sliding along the roadway. Fortunately, both drivers emerged from the incident uninjured, though Woods exhibited signs of impairment, prompting law enforcement to conduct a series of roadside tests.
#### DUI Charges and Test Results
After the crash, Woods underwent a breathalyzer test, which registered “triple zeroes,” indicating no alcohol in his system. However, he declined to participate in a urine test. Sheriff Budensiek noted that experts at the scene believed Woods’ impairment was likely due to medication or another drug rather than alcohol.
As a result of the findings, Woods was arrested and charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to comply with lawful testing. He will be required to serve a minimum of eight hours in jail, beginning at 3 p.m. on the day of the arrest, before being eligible for release on bond.
### Previous Incidents
This is not the first time Woods has encountered legal trouble related to driving. In 2017, he was arrested on DUI charges after being found asleep behind the wheel of his car in Florida. At that time, Woods attributed his condition to a mix of painkillers he had consumed.
Additionally, in February 2021, Woods was involved in a serious single-car rollover accident in Los Angeles. Authorities concluded that he was driving at a speed of 84 to 87 mph in a 45 mph zone, which played a crucial role in the crash that left him severely injured and necessitated rescue efforts to extract him from his vehicle.
### Recent Activities
Despite these challenges, Woods has remained active in the sport of golf. He participated in a recent match at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens just days before the incident. His ongoing engagement in competitive golf, along with his previous recovery from injuries sustained in the 2021 accident, indicates his resilient nature as he navigates personal and professional challenges.
The Martin County Fire Rescue Department also responded to the crash, but due to privacy regulations, they could not provide additional information about any patients involved.
As Woods faces these new charges, he remains a prominent figure in the world of golf, and his setbacks have garnered significant media attention, leaving many supporters concerned for his future on and off the course.
