Tanker Truck Fire in Fort Worth Leaves Driver Critically Injured
A significant incident occurred early Sunday morning in Fort Worth, Texas, when a tanker truck transporting gasoline caught fire following a collision with another vehicle. The crash resulted in downed power lines, leading to a blaze that has left the truck driver in critical condition.
Collision Details and Fire Outbreak
The incident took place around 1 a.m., involving an 18-wheeler loaded with approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline. According to Craig Trojacek, a spokesperson for the Fort Worth Fire Department, the truck veered off the roadway near a Valero gas station after the collision, causing the cargo to start leaking. The situation escalated when the downed power lines ignited the leaking fuel, resulting in a large fire.
Trojacek noted that the driver was trying to prevent the gasoline from spreading into the gas station parking lot at the time of the fire. Despite the driver’s efforts, circumstances quickly deteriorated. He sustained severe burns and has since been hospitalized. Fortunately, no other individuals were reported injured as a result of the incident.
Fire Response and Containment Efforts
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene and worked diligently for several hours to control the blaze. Firefighters utilized water and sand to contain the fire and mitigate the spread of gasoline. The firefighting efforts concluded around 7 a.m., allowing for the area to be secured and further assessments to take place.
Witnesses reported witnessing the intensity of the fire. One individual, Bailey Moss, who was nearby at the time, described hearing a “loud crash” and immediately looking outside. He recounted feeling the heat from the flames even at a distance, emphasizing the rapid spread of the fire.
Impact on Local Area
The fire not only posed a significant risk to the immediate vicinity but also raised concerns about potential environmental hazards due to the gasoline spill. Authorities have not yet released further details on what measures may be taken to address any environmental impact resulting from the incident.
As investigations continue into the cause of the accident and the subsequent fire, the Fort Worth community remains on alert for updates relating to the driver’s condition and any further repercussions of the incident. Local officials are expected to hold briefings to keep the public informed and address any lingering safety concerns. Emergency crews are expected to remain in the area for clean-up efforts as more details come to light.
