Man Arrested for Indecent Exposure at Cherokee Park
Multiple Incidents Lead to Arrest
Louisville Metro Police have apprehended a 59-year-old man accused of indecent exposure during two disturbing incidents at Cherokee Park. Gregory Mack was arrested on Friday following reports from park-goers who witnessed inappropriate behavior, and photographs taken by witnesses played a crucial role in his identification.
According to court documents, the first incident occurred in late April when a man was observed sitting on a park bench with his underwear around his ankles, where he was allegedly engaging in lewd behavior as two victims walked by. The second incident took place on May 4, involving a woman and her 5-year-old child. This time, witnesses reported that Mack exposed himself while they were photographing an owl’s nest in the park.
After police received multiple anonymous tips and corroborating images from witnesses, they were able to locate Mack, leading to his arrest later in the week. He now faces charges of first-degree and second-degree indecent exposure.
Community Concerns Raised
The incidents have raised significant concerns within the Louisville community regarding public safety and the appropriateness of behavior in parks. Cherokee Park is frequented by families and individuals who come to enjoy nature, and reports of such actions have left many feeling uneasy about their safety while using public spaces.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have encountered similar behavior to come forward with information. Police have emphasized the importance of community involvement in order to maintain a safe environment for all park visitors. As the investigation continues, officers are assessing additional reports to determine if this was an isolated case or part of a larger pattern of misconduct.
Mack has been released on a $2,500 bond while awaiting his court appearance. The police department has yet to disclose any further details on whether Mack has a prior history of similar offenses.
As this case develops, the community remains vigilant, with local organizations advocating for increased awareness about personal safety in public parks. Authorities are reminding visitors to report any suspicious or inappropriate conduct to ensure that recreational areas remain safe for everyone.
