A school director in Arkansas has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after being implicated in a disturbing case of child abuse involving a makeshift fight club. Mary Tracy Morrison, aged 51, who manages The Delta Institute for the Developing Brain and the Engage program in Jonesboro, received a sentence including 120 days of house arrest with electronic monitoring and a probation period of nine years. She pleaded guilty to charges of permitting child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
## Disturbing Details of the Case
Morrison’s troubles began in April 2025 when a mother reported to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office that her teenage son had been subjected to physical and mental abuse at the school. Investigations revealed shocking details, including video evidence obtained through a search warrant. According to the probable cause affidavit, Morrison directed the child to sit on the floor while being surrounded by 18 other students. She allegedly instructed these students to hit the child with an “unknown object,” escalating the abuse further.
The proceedings reportedly lasted for about 30 minutes, during which Morrison verbally berated the victim. Additional footage indicated that another student was seen kicking and choking the child. Morrison’s behavior was particularly alarming; at one point, she was observed giving a high five to a student after they struck the victim, suggesting her approval of the misconduct.
In a further attempt to mask the abuse, Morrison allegedly instructed the victim to apologize to his peers and ordered them not to discuss the incident. The severity of the acts led to immediate disciplinary actions against her, prohibiting her from engaging in any professional role involving children. She is also required to surrender her occupational therapy license and comply with a mental health assessment and subsequent treatment plans.
## Complicity Among Staff
Morrison is not the only one facing legal repercussions; three other school employees, identified as Michael Bean, Kristin Bell, and Kathrine Lipscomb, were also arrested in connection with the abuses. The extent of their roles remains unclear, but authorities are continuing to investigate potential complicity among the staff.
The Delta Institute for the Developing Brain and the Engage program have not provided any public response to the allegations or the tragic events that unfolded on their premises, as they currently lack a publicly accessible operational email.
The case has sparked outrage in the local community and raised troubling questions regarding oversight and accountability within educational institutions. Public concern is growing over how such explicit abuse could occur under the watch of a school director, particularly one entrusted with the care of children.
As the judicial process moves forward, Morrison is now mandated to complete her house arrest, illuminating a troubling chapter in an educational setting that was supposed to foster safe learning and development for young minds.
